He has been involved in over 2100 law enforcement related activities in regards to these groups which allowed him to become a widely known expert in the field of white supremacist gang and groups such as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK/IKA), Aryan Nations (AN), Aryan Brotherhood (AB), Nazi Lowriders (NLR), National Socialist Movement (NSM), Public Enemy Number One (PENI), Skinhead organizations, Militias, and Sovereign Citizens.

Mr. Smith was a Terrorism Liaison Officer (TLO) for the Orange County Probation Department which allowed him to work frequently with the Orange County Intelligence Assessment Center (OCIAC), Joint Regional Intelligence Center (JRIC), the Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF), the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Domestic Terrorism Working Group, the Anti-Defamation League’s Law Enforcement Advisory Board, as well as working with various local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Mr. Smith was featured on the television series Gangland concerning the criminal skinhead gang Public Enemy Number One (PENI1). He has also been interviewed by several media outlets including the Orange County Register concerning hate groups and FOX Los Angeles concerning the issue of Sovereign Citizens.
Mr. Smith has conducted training classes on the topic of white supremacist gangs and groups to a variety of law enforcement agencies, law enforcement associations, community groups, and educational groups. Mr. Smith is a court recognized expert on the subject of white supremacist gangs and groups and has recently testified on the issue of public threat assessment with individuals who are associated with white supremacist groups and who are seeking to be released from prison under the auspice of California’s Proposition 47.
During the course of his career, Mr. Smith has received several awards and commendations including the Anti-Defamation League’s Sherwood Prize for Combatting Hate, the California Peace Officers Association Medal of Distinction for Combating Hate Groups, the Western Inland Empire Coalition Against Hate- Educator of the Year (2008), Letter of Commendation from the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Letter of Commendation from the Long Beach Police Department, the CAPIA Award- California Association of Probation Institution Administrators, and the Orange County Probation Department Chiefs Award for a bomb making conspiracy case involving white supremacists.
Mr. Smith is currently serving as a board member for the California State University of San Bernardino’s Center for the Study of Hate & Extremisms while at the same time working in the capacity of a public safety/media consultant. Mr. Smit is currently in the process of completing his doctoral degree from Capella University where he is currently conducting his dissertation research on the topic of Sovereign Citizens.
